A pocket watch that Susanne Haun inherited from her grandmother inspired the artist to create this vanitas still life in indigo. The emotional connection to the original has never been as important as in the age of digital imagery. Not only the watch but also the withered hibiscus depicted is directly linked to the artist. The flowers come from her parents' garden; her mother has already died and her father no longer lives in the house with the garden. The bones come from the last half chicken that Haun bought and ate at the snack bar on the corner. The bones ended up in the dishwasher for cleaning and then in the picture as a model. The figure is reminiscent of an African figure that the artist bought at a flea market.
Susanne Haun uses high-quality watercolor cardboard from Hahnemühle and lightfast antique ink from Rohrer for her work.
The work is framed under glass with a white wooden frame and passepartout in the size 60 x 80 cm.
