Susanne Haun is inspired by Dürer's star map. With his woodcut, Dürer created the first printed star maps ever. On this star map, he combined the knowledge of late antiquity with that of Arabic science. The illustration of the northern starry sky shows twelve signs of the zodiac in twelve circular segments.
The zodiac sign Leo is protected by an angel. Haun sees angels as beings that stimulate people's imagination and that walk the earth to protect them. The angel depicted here has lost a wing and is in the company of a lion. Is the angel protecting the lion or the lion protecting the angel? That is the question!
Susanne Haun uses high-quality watercolor cardboard from Hahnemühle and lightfast antique ink from Rohrer for her work.
The work is framed under glass with a white wooden frame and passepartout in the size 50 x 40 cm.
