Susanne Haun's constant inspiration is the plants and flowers in her garden. The tulip depicted on the canvas is already wilting. Some of the petals have changed from flaming red to burgundy, the drooping leaves represent the inside of the plant with the seed pistils. The background of the picture is shown in warm black, so that the colors of the painting shine towards the viewer. The artist is a great admirer of Maria Sibylla Merian and the famous tulip subject can often be found in her pictures.
For her colorful floral depiction, Susanne Haun uses antique ink from Rohrer and acrylic paint from Schminke.
