As a Protestant, Haun learned a lot about Luther at school and in confirmation classes and later read a lot about him. She is more familiar with him than Cranach, whose drawing is offered here. Creating a portrait of someone who has been dead for so long is difficult - not only does Haun have to put herself in a different time and thus understand different moral principles, she also has to get an idea of Cranach's character: was he cheerful, moody, melancholic, as Luther is said to be? He must have been ambitious, otherwise he would not have got to where he was.
Susanne Haun uses high-quality watercolor cardboard from Hahnemühle and lightfast antique ink from Rohrer for her works of art.
The work is framed under glass with a white wooden frame and passepartout in the size 50 x 40 cm.
